Jane Watson to captain Tactix in 2019
18 December 2018
Star defender Jane Watson has been confirmed as captain of The Good Oil Tactix for the 2019 ANZ Premiership season.
The 28-year-old took over captaincy midway through last season following season ending injuries to captain Jess Maclennan and vice-captain Zoe Walker.
While Maclennan and Walker will miss the 2019 season due to their ongoing rehabilitation, a Tactix team vote sealed further faith in Watson’s continued leadership.
Watson marked her return to the Tactix in 2018 with a stellar season which saw her steer the Tactix to a first ever ANZ Premiership Finals Series while she also reclaimed a spot in the Silver Ferns squad.
Head coach Marianne Delaney-Hoshek said Watson has proven herself as an incredible player and respected leader.
“Jane leads by example and has high standards of both herself and of her team mates. She took over the on-court captaincy of the team after injuries to Jess and Zoe and did a magnificent job of leading the team to our first ever Finals Series,” she said.
Watson was equally excited about going into next season knowing her side has unfinished business. “I’m extremely honoured to lead this team and continue to build on the success we had in 2018. We have a very special dynamic within our squad and know we have the ability to challenge for the title again next season,” Watson said.
The Good Oil Tactix have two new signings for 2019 with Ashburton-born defender and New Zealand Under-21 World Youth Cup winner Kate Lloyd and Lily Marshall, who has progressed through the Netball Mainland player pathway.
