ANZ Premiership Netball Heading to Nelson

17 May 2017

Silvermoon Tactix defender Zoe Walker has been one of the form players for the side this season and will have the chance take her skills home when ANZ Premiership netball heads to Nelson.

The Nelson-born netballer joins her team-mates at Trafalgar Centre on Sunday 21 May, where the Silvermoon Tactix take on the Northern Mystics in Round 9 of the premiership. Netball fans will have the added bonus of watching the Heller’s Mainland team suit up for a key clash against the Northern Marvels in the Beko Netball League match following the ANZ Premiership game.

Netball Mainland chief executive Brigit Hearn said they were excited to be heading to the northern most part of the Zone.

“The support from the community for netball and the Silvermoon Tactix is huge and the players enjoy taking their game to Nelson,” she said.

For Walker however it is an opportunity to play in front of a supportive home crowd with the circle defender having one of her best seasons at the elite level.

She first started playing netball as an eight-year-old for Waimea College and went on to win a gold medal with the NZU21 team at the Netball World Youth Cup in 2013. She was also a member of the Silver Ferns Development Squad in 2015 and 2016.

“I grew up playing my netball in Nelson and it is pretty special to be able to run out on the court at the Trafalgar Centre and play in front of a home crowd,” Walker said.

The Tactix have just the one bonus point but have shown in recent weeks they can compete with the top teams in the ANZ Premiership.

New coach Marianne Delaney-Hoshek and the Silvermoon Tactix squad are looking forward to training in Nelson prior to the game where invited coaches and members will also be attending.

The Silvermoon Tactix will be “meeting and greeting” fans at the Nelson Netball Centre and Motueka Netball Centre from 10.30am on Saturday where fans can meet the players and pick up a special Silvermoon Tactix poster.
