Watson scoops honours at end of season awards

31 May 2019

The Good Oil Tactix captain Jane Watson has made a clean sweep of the club’s three top honours at the 2019 awards held at Addington Raceway and Events Centre on Thursday night.

Watson was named The Good Oil Tactix Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Members’ Player of the Year.

Watson, who was named in the Silver Ferns Netball World Cup team last week, had a stellar 2019 ANZ Premiership season which saw her create havoc for opposition sides in the defensive circle.

The 28-year-old played every minute of all 15 matches for the Tactix this season, finishing as the league leader in deflections (96), second most intercepts (40) and third most defensive rebounds (30).

For the Hellers Mainland Beko Netball League side, which finished third in 2019, captain Nicola Mackle was awarded Player of the Year while Natasha Ryan was named Players’ Player of the Year.

Netball Mainland CEO Brigit Hearn congratulated this year’s winners and said it was important to acknowledge their huge contributions.

“The annual awards are always a fantastic evening and a wonderful way to wrap up the season alongside our players, members, sponsors, partners and families,” she said.
